EUF-CE stands solidary with jailed EHU student and professor
The European University Foundation wishes to express its solidarity with EHU professor Aleksandr Feduta and 2nd-year political science and European studies student Anastasiya Palazhanka.
On 20 May 2011, Aleksandr Feduta was sentenced to two years probation and Anastasiya Palazhanka to one year probation in the Frunzenski District Court in Minsk, Belarus.
Aleksandr Feduta, a professor at EHU and representative of opposition candidate, Vladimir Neklyaev, was held by the KGB and faced a sentence of 5-15 years. He has been recognized as prisoner of conscience by Amnesty International.
Anastasiya Palazhanka has been charged under Paragraphs 1 and 2, Article 29 3of the Criminal Code and initially faced a prison sentence up to 15 years. In March this year she was awarded the 2011 International Women of Courage Award by U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
