EHU students and teachers jailed in Belarus

The aftermath of Sunday’s presidential election in Belarus has been marked by the violent dispersal of peaceful demonstrations against the rigged elections. Amongst the protesters that were jailed there are 10 students of the European Humanities University: four have been sentenced to 10 days in prison and 3 to 15 days in prison. EHU is especially concerned over the case of Nastassia Palazhenka, a 2nd year student of Political Sciences and European Studies. She is charged with the Article 293 by the Law of the Republic of Belarus and might be imprisoned for 5-15 years period.

Prof. Christoph Ehmann, Secretary General of the European University Foundation – Campus Europae has repudiated the detentions and expresses his fullest support to the EHU and the concerned students.
